Institute of Rural History / Austria

The Institute of Rural History (IRH), founded in 2002 in St. Pölten, is an independent research institute which deals with rural work and life in different times and spaces. The IRH undertakes reseach on rural environmental, economic, political, social and cultural history of Austria, Europe and the world. Its research focuses on the relations of rural actors among themselves and with their natural and social environments. The IRH aims at fostering the scientific discourse across boundaries as well as communicating its insights to the wider public by means of electronic and printed publications (e.g. Rural History Yearbook) and scientific meetings. Since 2013, the IRH serves as the EURHO's legal seat and coordination centre.
