Women’s History Association of Ireland Conference 2016
'Irish Women and Rural Society, from Medieval to Modern'

The annual Women’s History Association of Ireland conference will be held at Queen’s University Belfast, 11-12 March 2016. The broad theme for this year will be ‘Irish Women and Rural Society, from Medieval to Modern’. Papers are welcome on but are not restricted to the following:

  • Women and paid/unpaid work
  • Women in the home
  • Political activity
  • Women religious
  • The marketplace
  • Consumerism and material culture of rural women
  • Leisure activities (reading, dancing, sports, crafts, etc.)
  • Philanthropy
  • Courtships or relationships
  • Sexuality and sexual behaviour
  • Education
  • Health and medicine
  • Migration
  • Girlhood
  • Deviance or criminality

 

Urban/rural comparative papers or panel proposals are also welcome. Abstracts (up to 250 words) and a short bio should be sent to Elaine Farrell (e.farrell@qub.ac.uk) on or before 20 December 2015.
