The Rural History conference postponed to June 20–23, 2022

The fifth biennial conference of the European Rural History Organisation (EURHO), Rural History 2021 in Uppsala, has been very successful in attracting scholars. More than 450 papers will be presented at 82 panels. Many of the panels consists of double sessions leading to a packed program of over 120 sessions during four days.

We had large hopes that the conference could take place as planned but unfortunately the Covid19 pandemic still affect our lives and our possibilities of travelling and meeting each other. Despite on-going vaccination, the situation in August this year is still very uncertain. With deep regret we have arrived at the conclusion that it is not possible to carry out the Rural History 2021 conference in Uppsala in a safe way in August 2021 as has been planned. The Management Committee of the EURHO and the organisers have therefore jointly decided to move the conference to June 2022.

Important to notice is that all accepted sessions and all accepted papers remain in the program! In a way we merely “freeze” the conference as is, and move it in its entirety to June 2022. A new time-table for registration and other important dates is up on the conference web-page. A preliminary program and schedule for sessions will be presented already in early June this year (2021).

The EURHO conferences are the world’s largest gatherings of researchers interested in rural history and previous conferences in Bern (2013), Girona (2015), Leuven (2017), and Paris (2019) have shown their success in promoting and discussing new research on the broad field of rural history in Europe.

Rural History 2021 aims to continue in this line and will thus take place in Uppsala, Sweden, from Monday June 20 to Thursday June 23, 2022. The conference will be jointly organized by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and Uppsala University through the Division of Agrarian History and the Department of Economic History respectively.

We are very sorry for all inconveniences the decision on postponing the conference might cause but we hope that together we will make Rural History 2021 a fantastic event also in 2022.

Meanwhile, take care, and see you all in Uppsala in June 2022!
