At the Department of Economic and Social History of the Vienna Faculty of History, Assistant Prof. Federico D'Onofrio is looking for a University Assistant "prae doc" in the field of economic and social or business history.

Successful candidates will join the team of the project DATAREV, ?Leading the first data revolution in European agriculture: farm accountancy data and their impact 1870-1945?.

In addition to completing their dissertation, the successful candidate will contribute to the construction of a database of farm accountancy data.

For their dissertation they will investigate the spread of farm accounting in the period 1870-1945, its drivers and consequences.

The employment relationship is initially limited to 1,5 year and is automatically extended to a total of 3 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months. The position can be extended for 1 additional year up to a total of 4.

Duration of employment: 3 year/s

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:

a. Participation in DATAREV project, including:

1. Completing a doctoral dissertation of the spread of farm accounting - We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12 months.
2. Supporting the creation of the database of historical farm accountancy data
3. Participating in publications / academic articles / presentations as defined by the PI of the DATAREV project
4. Helping with the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums.
b. Involvement in teaching and research administration

Profile:
Completed Master's degree (or equivalent) in History, Economic or Business History or equivalent qualification

Master's degree in History, Economic or Business History, with grades above average. A very good command of English (written and oral) is required. Knowledge of quantitative methods for economic history will be considered relevant.

Successful candidates will join the team of the project DATAREV, “Leading the first data revolution in European agriculture: farm accountancy data and their impact 1870-1945”. In addition to completing their dissertation, the successful candidate will contribute to the construction of a database of farm accountancy data. The dissertation will examine the entire lifecycle of accountancy data, from data gathering to actual governance of economic and social phenomena, by focusing on the case of farm accountancy data of Switzerland, Austria and Germany. At the Department of Economic and Social History of the Vienna Faculty of History, Dr. Federico D'Onofrio is looking for a Post-Doctoral researcher in Economic History (VwGr. B1 lit. B, 100%, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, 14 monthly wages) as soon as possible. The position is limited to 1 year and renewable up to 38 months. The Post-doctoral researcher will be part of the DATAREV team.

The project DATAREV, “Leading the first data revolution in European agriculture: farm accountancy data and their impact 1870-1945” is funded by ERC Starting Grant 949722 and investigates the diffusion of farm accountancy offices of continental Europe since the 1870s and the use of farm accountancy data by state and non-state actors in the first half of the 20th century.

The successful candidate will contribute to the creation and management of a database of farm accountancy data and will be responsible for a specific subproject on European agriculturalists and the Great Depression.

Dauer der Befristung: 1 Jahr/e

Beschäftigungsausmaß: 40 Stunden/Woche.
Einstufung gemäß Kollektivvertrag: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc)
Darüber hinaus können anrechenbare Berufserfahrungen die Einstufung und damit das Entgelt bestimmen.


Ihre Aufgaben:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration, this implies:
- Establishment or expansion of an independent research profile
- Participation in DATAREV project (sub-projects SP0 and SP2) and to the common activities of the DATAREV team (including research meetings and reading groups)
- International peer-reviewed publications and talks/lectures
- Participation in the life of the Department of Economic and Social History

Ihr Profil:
- Doctorate/PhD in Economic History obtained less than 4 years before the job starting date
- Experience and knowledge in the area of quantitative economic history and related software
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research as well as statistical methods
- - High level of written and oral expression
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Experience of database creation
- Ability to work in a team
