Deadline for application: 30 September 2024

The University of Milano-Bicocca invites applications for a 24-month research position in the project “Taxation, public expenditure and economic inequality in the Venetian Lombardy (1400–1800)”, led by Giulio Ongaro. The researcher will analyse, both from the quantitative and qualitative point of view, the relationship between the inclusiveness of the public institutions, the management of the local finances (especially the direct taxation and the incomes from the commons), and the economic inequality in the area of Bergamo and Brescia during the Venetian period (indicatively 1400–1800). The archival sources will be: the registers of the municipal resolutions, in order to collect information about the management of the commons, of the taxation, the functioning of the municipal councils, and to identify the members of the councils themselves; the municipal accounting sources, in order to observe the trend of the local finances and the characterization of the incomes; the tax surveys (estimi) in order to analyse the trend in the economic inequality.

The deadline for application is 30 September 2024.
